TOYOTA Yaris Production Scheduled to Start in China in Mid-2008

Tokyo — TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (GTMC), a joint vehicle production and sales company established with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (Guangzhou Automobile) in China in 2004, is scheduled to begin production of the Yaris (known as the Vitz in Japan) in mid-2008. GTMC has also been actively training personnel at its engineering training center, which was established in January 2005.

Enhanced Equipment that Seeks Exceptional Passenger Comfort
The seats provide comfortable seating with a good fit and feature a combination of real leather and Alcantara®*1, which is a leading international brand of suede-like artificial leather that pays meticulous attention to the quality of its feel in the pursuit of the high-quality touch of leather (G grade). This delivers not only functionality, but also a stylish and comfortable space.
A four-spoke steering wheel covered with the highest-quality leather used on Toyota brand vehicles is standard on all vehicles in the series.
The gentle illumination emanating from the large ceiling light employing three LEDs (indirect illumination) create a stylish atmosphere (G grade).
A sliding eight-way multi-adjustable power driver's seat (G grade) with a seat cushion that has separate height adjustments for its front and rear and a seamlessly variable reclining seatback is aimed at offering an optimal seating position.
The main controls, including the gear-shift lever, have been concentrated within easier reach of the driver's seat to enhance operability and functionality.

Eco-VAS (Eco-Vehicle Assessment System)—Toyota's original comprehensive environmental impact assessment system—was implemented to achieve the overall reduction of environmental impact throughout the vehicle's entire lifecycle as efficiently as possible. Environmental targets were set in the vehicle development stage and a life cycle assessment was carried out, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions and other atmospheric pollutants, not just during the use stage, but also through all stages of the vehicle's life, from manufacture to disposal.
A review of the materials, processing methods and adhesives used for interior parts resulted in a reduction in the amount of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) used, thereby also reducing the discomforting odors emitted from such compounds.
An Eco Drive Indicator lights up when the vehicle is being efficiently operated to raise the driver's awareness of environmentally considerate driving and contribute to higher fuel efficiency.

Nissan investigation concerning customer information

On October 30th 2006, the Japanese weekly magazine “The Weekly Asahi” ran a story concerning the leak of a database containing personal information on Nissan customers. Although Nissan was unable to obtain a copy of the alleged database from the magazine, the company has conducted a thorough investigation of this matter. The following is a summary of the key findings:

Based on the limited information supplied by the magazine, Nissan has been unable to match that database with one that exists inside the company.
Although the alleged outside database does not match with our own internal database, our investigation has identified certain matching items that could have only been sourced from inside the company.
Based on our extensive research, Nissan has been able to identify that certain internal data may have been sourced from an old customer database. These findings are supported through vehicle model codes (model type, base, class etc.) that are exclusively used inside the company.
From the data investigations, we have concluded that the most likely timing for the leak to have occurred was between May 2003 and February 2004.
Nissan’s investigations have been conducted through the engagement of a third-party research company. Based on our findings and available information, we have taken the precautionary measure to notify all potentially affected customers whose information could have been found on this old database. Accordingly, Nissan has sent letters to 5,379,909 customers clarifying the situation and apologizing for any inconvenience caused.

Nissan security measures
In 2005 a new Japanese law concerning protection of personal information was legislated. Nissan has implemented a range of operational measures in full compliance with the new law that include limitations on authorized users of customer data, full records of all access made to databases and special security encoding of the data.

In January 2006, Nissan replaced its entire customer database to ensure the complete management and protection of customer information based upon a higher level of security system.

During 2007, Nissan will implement a range of additional security measures further enhancing level of protection of personal information, on top of measures that has ensured full compliance with the laws governing the protection of customer data enacted in 2005. These measures include:

Physical security systems including camera monitoring of secure areas and tracking of personnel access to designate secure areas.
System counter measures including sophisticated software monitoring systems of databases and the tracking of all access made to the database.
Organizational changes including a new internal organization responsible for management of customer information and education programs for all Nissan employees concerning management of classified information.
Nissan has taken the necessary actions to fully comply with the "Law Protecting Personal Information" since its legislation in 2005. Following the recent review of our systems, Nissan is continuously enforcing its security management systems to ensure the complete protection and security of its databases. All Nissan employees are committed to ensuring the highest levels of information protection and security for our customers.

- Tried and tested MacPherson struts are used for the front suspension and a multilink system is installed in the rear. Together they provide a stable ride and agile handling, while the power smoothly delivered across the gearbox supplies a responsive, balanced feel.

3. Fun to use – stylish packaging for an enviable city life
The easy-to-drive character of the CX-7, together with the spacious luggage area, ergonomic passenger seating area and full complement of interior features make even long distance journeys pleasurable.

- The driver’s seat has a 260mm long seat slide to cater to all physiques. The eight-way fully-adjustable power seat in the CX-7 Cruising package can be moved forward, back and also reclined, and the seat cushions and backs raised and lowered, all by a simple switch. This seat also includes lumbar support as standard to raise comfort levels even more.
- Major consideration was given to the size of the luggage space, and even with the rear seats upright, the luggage area volume measures 455 liters (using the VDA method). This can be further increased by using a simple lever to fold down the rear seats.
- The interior was designed for maximum storage capacity. For example, the lockable large multipurpose center console box that is positioned behind the front seat cup holders optimizes the available space and provides room for three 2-liter drink containers or an A4 paper-sized laptop computer.

- Highly effective theft prevention devices such as an immobilizer and a burglar alarm system are included on both grades.

5. Positive steps to aid environmental friendliness
Building an environmentally friendly vehicle was a priority from the first stages of development.

- By increasing the use of easily recyclable polypropylene (PP), conforming to ISO-approved material indication guidelines, and designing parts that are readily dismantled, the CX-7 is over 90 percent recyclable. The use of environmental harmful substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium has also been drastically curtailed.
- Emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from painting processes were curbed.
- Both grades conform to Japan’s Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (U-LEV) emissions standards (a 50 percent reduction from the 2005 standards).

Ya01pic_002.jpg

In this, the 4th Yamaha ASEAN Cup, riders from the five ASEAN countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand who had qualified in local national competitions gathered for this international race event to compete for the title of No. 1 in the ASEAN region. The riders competed in either the Expert or Novice class, with the racing conducted in a one-make format using Yamaha’s 4-stroke sporty mopeds.

On Dec. 17 (Sunday), some 20,000 spectators gathered to watch the finals for the two classes, which were competed on a two-heat basis. Due to a sudden rain shower just before the scheduled start of competition, the starting time for the first heat of the Expert Class finals had to be delayed more than 40 minutes. The result of that heat saw last year's Expert Class winner, Decha Kraisart (Thailand) ran away to victory with a 6-sec. lead over 2nd place. In the second heat, Florianus Roy (Indonesia) came from behind to grab the victory on the final lap. Having finished 2nd in the first heat, this gave Roy the overall victory in the Expert Class and made him the fourth rider in history to claim the Yamaha ASEAN Cup title.

In the Novice Class competition, Sudarmono (Indonesia) won both heats to claim the overall victory. And, in this way, the Indonesian team was able to answer the expectations of the many local fans who turned out to cheer for them by winning both classes and claiming the ASEAN Cup team title for the second time, following their victory in the competition’s first year. It has been announced that the fifth Yamaha ASEAN Cup will be held in 2007 in Malaysia, as it was in the second year of the competition.

All Mazda Vehicles From Car-Carrying Vessel Cougar Ace to be Scrapped

IRVINE, Calif.—Mazda Motor Corporation today announced that all of the U.S.- and Canada-bound Mazda vehicles from the car-carrying vessel, Cougar Ace, which nearly capsized off the Aleutian Islands in late July, would be scrapped.

"After thorough testing by engineers from our American and Japanese R&D centers, we decided the most appropriate course of action – with our customers foremost in mind – was not to sell any of the 4,703 Mazdas aboard the ship," said Jim O'Sullivan, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, based in Irvine, Calif.

The Cougar Ace sat listing at more than 60-degrees for nearly a month after an incident at sea, before it could be towed to the Port of Portland, Ore., for repairs and to have its cargo off-loaded.

O'Sullivan added that although some of the Mazdas aboard the Cougar Ace showed little or no visible damage from being tied-down at severe angles for an extended period, the company reconsidered its initial decision to sell any of the vehicles as used.

"We always put the customer first," O'Sullivan continued. "This drove our decision to scrap every one of the Mazdas involved in this incident. None will be sold as used cars."

Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States, Canada and Mexico through nearly 900 dealers. Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc., located in Ontario, Canada, and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.
